Relying on a single antivirus program may not be enough nowadays. Automated security systems can be fooled, but it is a different matter if a bit of human attention gets added to the mix. ExeWatch will notify you with visual and audio cues each time an executable file is created or stored anywhere on the hard drive. Although it doesn't sound like the application does much for the average user, receiving notifications each time a new executable spawns on the hard drive can be quite useful, especially if you are doing everything you can to prevent virus or malware infections.

ExeWatch is distributed as a donationware application, which means that you don't have to pay for it, but you can make a donation if you want to. The application doesn't need to be installed, so it is sufficient to download and run a small executable file. It doesn't ask for any special tools or services and it uses an insignificant amount of resources.

The application doesn't come with a user interface. All you have to do is run ExeWatch and let it work in the background and the application will start monitoring your entire hard drive. It will display flashing colors in all corners of the screen and it will beep each time an executable is created somewhere on the hard drive or on a removable drive.

ExeWatch can be triggered when you copy or cut executables, download them and perform other actions that result in new executables in a local folder. Furthermore, the application will react to several executable types, including EXE, BAT and JAR.

While the application is running, you may click its system tray icon to see the last detected executable. You can also right click the icon, to reveal options for bringing additional options. An interesting feature is the possibility of setting the application to panic mode. While ExeWatch is in panic mode, it will automatically render any new executables inaccessible, which can prevent any further damage, if your system is already infected.

Pros

ExeWatch notifies you each time a new executable is created on the hard drive. It can be triggered by EXE, BAT, JAR and other executable types. The application is lightweight and it doesn't need to be installed.

Cons

There are no serious issues to address. While ExeWatch is running on your computer, you will know about any new executable, anywhere on the hard drive.
